Wedding MC – Why You Should Start Planning Now!
You already know what you’re doing on the day and when? The Wedding MC has the job of making sure the wedding reception runs smoothly but letting the guests know what’s happening and smoothing over anyrthing that doesn’t go to plan. Easy.
Let’s take a step back. Do you know what is supposed to be happening? If you’ve got a book with the typicalñ running order of a wedding then bravo! but you need to speak to the bride and groom to find out what they want at their own wedding?
What do you mean no?.
Stop reading this article and go and call the bride and groom immediately – arrange a time to sit down and go throough it all now. The bride’s mother often has quite a lot of input here, so she might like to attend too.
So what will you talk about?
The first point is to get a list of the entire running order of the wedding reception. What is happening? What is the order of the events? Who is involved? Are any special announcements required? At what time are they scheduled to occur? How long? What time should they finish? How much break before the next item….?
Write this down and you have your initial plan. It may of course change later, but it’s good enough to get started on planning your day as a Wedding MC.
Once you have the overall plan you can start to work out when you have to make announcements. When people move from one location to another, for instance. If that location is very different then there may be taxis or other transport – it’s your job to make sure people know and nobody is left behind.
Well, that is it. You just need to plan a couple of lines to make sure people are clearly instructed in what is expected, and add some humour if you feel like it – it will be appreciated and they’ll remember you well if you amuse the guests as well as instruct them
